Abstract

Learning vocational tasks is one of the main objectives of vocational education. There is a debate, however, regarding the appropriate place where these tasks must be learnt. School workshops or workplace? Moreover, who is the appropriate teacher? Is it the VET teacher or the VET workplace trainer? In this research we have tried to elicit, within the theoretical framework of vocational didactics, what is a professional task for vocational school teachers and for practitioners who exercise such tasks in workplace. The recording of oral descriptions was employed as method. Clear differences were registered between the descriptions of teachers and practitioners which are attempted to be explained in this work. Implications regarding vocational education and research are discussed.
