Abstract

Via manipulation and structuring according to specific rules of the grouping of individual objects, pupils at primary school are introduced to calculation by means of their hands as well as the techniques of the four arithmetic operations. The language of arithmetic formulas is more or less well assimilated before they reach middle school. Nevertheless, the language of trigonometric formulas has not benefited from the same attention of teaching practices. It is as if the type of calculations favoured by these practices is the one that does not need to focus on some geometrical models. In this research investigation, we try to show how Information and Communication Technology (ICT) makes geometrical models available for pupils who are introduced to calculations in their school programs at an early age. These calculations have so far been intended only for pupils belonging to sections with more developed mathematical content, especially the calculation establishing the trigonometric formulas.
