Abstract

This article retraces the path made by the concept of resonance, through textbooks and ancient books of physics, according to the definitions it was given over a period of nearly a century and a half. Chronology, which also shows the objects that the resonance was interested in the past, seeks to identify conceptual change across different formulations and historical presentations to this concept. We conjecture some mental obstacles overcame in this period. The university teaching of resonance in wave physics could be improved by taking into account these obstacles.
