Η ΣΥΝΘΕΣΗ ΣΤΟ ΙΔΙΩΜΑ ΤΩΝ ΜΕΓΑΡΩΝ
Abstract
This paper provides a morphological analysis of the word-formation process of compounding in the linguistic variety of Megara, based on the theoretical framework introduced by Ralli (2005, 2007) for the analysis of Standard Modern Greek compounds. The analysis of the main lexical categories (nouns, adjectives, verbs) has shown the large variety of all kinds of compounds in this dialect. There are two types of structures; the first is based on the internal relation of constituents and the second on the notion of headedness. The internal relation of constituents is revealed to be of dependency or coordinative type, although the latter is not very productive. Endocentric and exocentric compounds are both productive. Finally, the structure of synthetic compounds proves that the boundaries between compounding and derivation are not clear.
