Strategic Management in Greek Higher Education: Management of change (full text in Greek)
Abstract
Higher education has become a social commodity which reflects the cultural status of a country. Similarly, it is a product which inevitably is committed to complying with the rules of the free market, and is subject to international competition. However, the present financial hardship - and the resulting governmental under-funding have caused serious operational problems for the Higher Education institutions. In response, the University administrators are being challenged to take up initiatives that will ensure the institutions' financial stability and independence, which in turn will fuel the achievement of high-level academic and research performance. The operational effectiveness, the organizational excellence and the effective administration of the faculty can be achieved through careful strategic planning. Only in this way, will the Higher Education institutions manage to adapt to the present economic and social conditions and at the same time be able to pursue the competitive advantage in the contemporary globalized environment of Higher Education today.
