Abstract

The results of a survey regarding the the four-year students of the Department of Primary Education of the University of Patras are presented in this paper with the aim to demonstrate their needs for educational, psychological or vocational orientation support during their studies and whether they have found it or not. An initial analysis of the results indicate that a significant number of students have received or need at least one of the three types of support -to a greater extent educational support- with the majority of them finding it usually outside the university. The first results indicate that the multiple student support needs do not fully respond with the existing support services. Additionally, students seem to not be aware of the existence of the present support services, with the exception, to some extent, of vocational orientation. All in all, in the framework of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), this survey is part of the third axis of the social dimension of the universities (study conditions) which suggests the need to develop student support mechanisms.
