Students and HIV/AIDS: Exploring the situation in Greek higher education (full text in Greek)

Abstract

AIDS is a worldwide epidemic causing social and financial problems. It affects all ages and social groups but particularly young people. In the past years higher education has focused on promoting knowledge, skills and competences in order to prepare young people to successfully integrate socially as well as within the working community. The aim of this study was the assessment of undergraduate university students’ knowledge concerning HIV/AIDS in a Greek university. Their level of knowledge was correlated with demographic and social characteristics. A lack of knowledge was identified, in particular by the women who participated in the study. Based on these findings the need for development of interventions in terms of educational programs is addressed.
