The Europeanisation of teacher training: challenges and issues for learning about citizenship, democracy and interculturality (full text in French)

Denis Vigneron, Prudence Barbera

Abstract

The Europeanization of teacher training addresses contemporary societal challenges, including inequalities and democratic concerns. This article explores how EU initiatives like Erasmus+, Teacher Academies, and Jean Monnet projects foster a shared educational space, emphasizing cooperation, innovation, and intercultural exchange. It aims to prepare teachers to promote citizenship and democracy.

The article is divided into three sections: the origins and goals of Europeanization in teacher training, the operational aspects of European programs and their impacts, and the obstacles and potential improvements for these initiatives.

Through an analysis of EU policies and practical experiences, particularly at the INSPE of Lille, this article evaluates the benefits, limitations, and prospects of Europeanizing teacher training. It highlights the need for integrated governance and the alignment of European initiatives with national educational strategies to build an inclusive educational community.
